MKT Groups

Operator guide to grouping raw marketing tracking tags into stable reporting groups by explicit membership and automatic text rules.

How to use this guide

Follow the explanation and examples first. Extra definitions and formulas are available below when you need them.

What this module is for

MKT Groups turns many raw marketing tracking tags into named groups that are easier to compare in reporting. A raw MKT tag is the campaign or attribution value recorded on banking or casino transactions. A group can include tags in two ways:

  • Manual MKT Tags explicitly includes selected raw tags.
  • Automatic Rules includes every currently known raw tag whose text contains a rule, without regard to letter case.

The resulting Effective MKT set is the union of both sources with duplicate tags removed. The MKT Groups Performance report aggregates activity against that effective set.

Included pages

  • List: search groups, inspect status/rules/included-tag count, create a group, and open a group for editing.
  • Create / Edit: configure the name, status, manual tags, automatic rules, and inspect the effective-tag preview before saving.

How automatic membership works

An automatic rule is plain text, not a regular expression. For example, a rule such as facebook matches currently discoverable raw tags including facebook, Facebook_UK, and paid-facebook-retargeting because each value contains the rule when compared case-insensitively.

Automatic membership is dynamic. If a new transaction later introduces a raw tag that matches a saved rule, that tag becomes part of the group's effective set even though nobody edited the group.

Important ownership rule

A raw MKT tag cannot belong to the effective set of two saved groups at the same time. Create and update validate the full effective set against every other group. If an overlap is found, save is rejected and the error identifies the conflicting tag and group name. Resolve the overlap by removing or narrowing a manual tag or automatic rule.

What Active and Inactive mean here

The Active / Inactive switch is the saved status of the group. Do not confuse it with the Active Only filter in MKT Groups Performance: that report filter keeps rows with player activity and does not filter on this group-status switch.

Common questions

Why did Included MKT Count change without an edit?

The count is recalculated from current raw transaction tags. A new tag can start matching an existing automatic rule, or a previously discoverable tag may no longer be present in the current raw-tag source.

Does preview save anything?

No. Preview evaluates the current manual tags and rules and returns the effective set, but it does not create or update the group. Only Create Group or Save Changes persists configuration.

Can two rules inside one group match the same tag?

Yes. The effective set removes duplicates, so the tag is counted once.

No system-setting dependency was found in the traced flow. Membership is owned by the admin service and current banking/casino raw MKT data.
